Types of Welt Cord That Are Suitable for Outdoor Furniture

Welt Cord Materials for Outdoor Furniture

Outdoor cushions are accessories that give a house a fresh look. They are as crucial as other furniture to provide a cohesive look. Outdoor cushions can be made more attractive by use of welt cords. In the technique, a welt cord is put along the lining of the outdoor cushion. This technique is not always necessary, but it gives the cushion a nice look for outdoor patio furniture.

Matching Colors with Welt Cords

All cushions can use welt cords. However, outdoor cushions that have a pattern look more beautiful when covered with a welting cord. This is because the different patterns match the welted color.

Materials Used for Welt Cords

Numerous materials can be used for welt cord on cushions. However, it is crucial to be cautious when selecting materials. This is because cheap materials will cause the accumulation of mold and mildew and this typically wears out the cushion much faster than anticipated.

Additionally, cheap materials also fade at a rapid rate when exposed to sunlight. It is, therefore, advisable to select a welting material that has water resistance properties to increase the lifetime of the cushion.

The following are some of the welt cord materials that can be used:

  1. Vinyl – This material is commonly called PVC. It is cheap and readily available in many shops. However, vinyl is not well suited to high temperatures as it gets heated quickly. It is also non-biodegradable.
  2. Cotton Canvas – This material has been used as a welting material for a long period. The primary advantage of cotton canvas is that it can be dyed. However, it is prone to accumulation of molds and requires to be treated at least once per year.
  3. Other materials that are commonly used include cotton, fiber, and jute.
